Canon EOS 20D has the ability to record images in black and white and to simulate some filters, red, orange, yellow and green. You can also sepia tone B & W image is produced. This feature is useful if you want to make B & W prints directly from the camera, or, I suppose, if you want to see what B & W image looked like on the LCD. But shooting in color and then change in the image editor gives you much more flexibility to decide where the "filter" effect looks best, or even to define its own "filter" settings.
